Chapter Community Activities

Every CSH chapter across the nation offers activities and traditions unique to their community. These fun events help tell our story, and make the Sunman chapter special.

Showcases

Each year our chapter offers two showcases for families to celebrate our scholars and their amazing work.

  • Winter Showcase is when we share hold our Advent tradition of a Las Posadas, and skits. Families enjoy refreshments, scholars’ work is displayed, and the evening ends with the ever popular piñatas!
  • Spring Showcase culminates the year with an awards ceremony, choir performance, classwork displays, and featured talents by classes and individuals. It also includes our end-of-year family picnic.

Field Trips

Classes occur in three-week rotations with optional field trips on the weeks in between. Past trips have included: Cincinnati Observatory, Cincinnati Zoo, Levi and Catharine Coffin House (historic Underground Railroad home), in-school assemblies with local professionals, State Park hikes, nature centers … and so much more!

Field Day

A favorite for our chapter is our annual field day. Just before school ends for the year, scholars are divided up into teams to work together and complete a number of obstacles. Supporting and cheering each other onto the finish, top teams are then awarded ribbons at the Spring Showcase!

Fund Raising & Service Projects

We are blessed to be able to host two breakfasts through a local parish community. These opportunities allow us to serve as a way to raise funds for our chapter. Funds raised assist chapter families that may need scholarships. Our Upper Level scholars also utilize raised funds to create community service projects like donation drives, or nursing home programs.

Chapter Day Celebrations

Twice a year we add a little more fun to our in-class day. We celebrate these as close to their feast days as our schedule allows!

  • All Saints Day welcome scholars to dress as a saint. Lunch includes extra treats, and a local pastor joins us for an assembly where guesses each saint and then shares something about their story.
  • Valentines Day gives students to opportunity to create little valentines to bring in for their classmates. The uplifting messages, or tasty snacks, always make for a fun and joyful day.

Moms/Dads/Couples Outings

Community among adult members is important since everyone works together to make each year happen. Therefore, we offer quarterly mom’s night outings (or morning coffees), that include various activities or just meeting up for drinks. Activities for member dads, or couples, can also be coordinated and offered.

Annual Kick-off Picnic & Open House

Each fall is an exciting time as we get to know the families joining us for a new year and venture. Our Annual Picnic happens just before our first chapter day. Families enjoy a meal, receive welcome packets, answer any questions, socialize, and are welcome to tour the facility.

Meal Trains

Sometimes we may find ourselves needing a little help from friends. Therefore, our chapter offers meal train opportunities so that we can serve one another when a family may be facing a difficult time or have just welcomed a new baby.
