Our Chapter

Our schedule

Our chapter meets once a week for classes in Dearborn County, Indiana.

We offer 3.5 hours of class time, and 30 minutes for a lunch break. Classes are each week for three weeks at a time, and then a week off when a field trip option is usually offered. We begin each year in mid-August. Classes finish the first or second week of May followed by a field day and spring showcase.

We break mid-way through the year following our Advent Showcase, and return for classes following the New Year. We also break for Holy Week.

Families that serve

We average about twenty families each year that come from across Southeast Indiana as well as the Tri-State area and greater Cincinnati.

Catholic Schoolhouse chapters are all-volunteer. Our families serve as tutors during class time, student and class aids, and chapter coordinators. We are also supported by local parish communities that help us through facility usage, fundraising activities, special events and masses, promotion, and board member involvement.

Volunteering

There is a role for everyone in a Catholic Schoolhouse chapter. We are not considered a “drop-off” co-op, but instead a place where scholars learn, and adults are there to make each day exciting and possible. The work is shared, and the benefits are endless!

Thanks to the energy, enthusiasm, and camaraderie of everyone involved, volunteering never feels like actual work. It becomes an enjoyable time spent together caring for our community while learning and supporting each other.

Some roles where adults share their talents include:

Chapter coordinators – Individuals focus on a specific area of the chapter programming. Coordinators are lead by our chapter director and focus on areas such finance, administration, supply, class and tutor programming, facility care, field trip planning, and community events.

Tutors and Class aids – Adult members serve as tutors and present lessons and activities to classes each week. Lesson planning is made simple by using plans directly from CSH curriculum books (pre-grammar, science, and art), or downloading worksheets and activity ideas from community resources. Lesson ideas can even be developed by tutors. Aids work within classes to assist with lesson plan needs or the needs of specific scholars.

Other service – Every family offers clean up time on a three-week rotation, to maintain our facility and supplies. Adult volunteers attend quarterly gatherings to help prep future class materials by sorting, cutting, and organizing supplies. And families offer time serving at two annual community breakfasts to raise funds for our chapter.
