Classes
Our chapter gathers once a week for four hours.
We meet for three weeks at a time in class, and then enjoy a week off where a field trip is usually offered. Chapter days include a lunch period for all scholars. Class time is chock full of engaging lessons based around the memory work given within each Catholic Schoolhouse tour. There are three different tours that rotate. This way, as students age they are able to revisit and better understand material in new ways. A tour is repeated every three years.
(Kindergarten - Grade 6)
(Grades 7 - 12)
(Nursery - Pre-Grammar)
(Kindergarten - Grade 6)
Memory work is presented across four main periods of the day in ways that work best for scholars’ ages and abilities. Lessons are offered by class tutors who are volunteer parents from our homeschool community. A tutor, or class assistant, also enjoy breaks during their chapter day.
1. Choir Class (30 mins)
Scholars learn and perform songs that correspond with other subjects of focus.
2. Science Class
(30 mins)
Weekly hands-on lessons and experiments help scholars grasp areas of science that include zoology, weather, anatomy, botany, magnetism, electricity, and astronomy – just to name a few!
3. Art Class
(30 mins)
Weekly art projects utilize techniques similar to those used by famous artists, as we better learn about, and identify, famous artworks throughout history.
4. Academics Class
(2 hours)
Brief activities further expose scholars to the CSH memory work. The subjects touched on during this class block include:
Religion – Diving into areas of the Catholic faith including, spirituality, liturgy, theology, tradition, and more.
Truth, Goodness, Beauty – Building a foundation for identifying artists, musicians, and their famous works throughout time. Looking into the lives of the saints, and discovering virtues.
Math – A practice of skip counting, measurements, geometry, conversions, algebraic concepts, and so much more.
Geography – Discover countries and continents, as well as their famous landscapes, and water formations.
Language Arts – A practice of grammar rules, parts of speech, composition concepts, word usage, and more.
Classical Roots – Exploring a large vocabulary of Latin, conjugation rules, as well as Catholic prayers.
Timeline – Create a foundation for identifying events from history.
History – Travel back into time each week with a different historical event.
Presentations – Short quarterly presentations help scholars focus on specific speech techniques.
(Grades 7 - 12)
An upper level scholars’ day is filled with unique studies, hands-on science course, writing strategies, and an art class – all built to strengthen their skills and discover their own talents. Upper level students receive exclusive access to CSH online resources to support their unique studies both at home and in class.
Dialectic Class
This upper level class is for scholars at a junior high stage. Topics of study run similar to what grammar students are working on; however, dialectic classes take a greater look into these topics while drawing upon the memory work from their grammar days. They create an even stronger understanding of material while fine tuning their writing, speech, and artistic talents.
Rhetoric Class
This coursework is for scholars at a high school stage. Scholars explore more intensive studies on material in a group setting with the guide of a tutor. While using their already gained knowledge, scholars draw conclusions and share perspectives among their peers.
(Nursery - Pre-Grammar)
Even the youngest family members have a place at the schoolhouse. See how our littlest scholars enjoy their days.
Nursery (infant to age 2)
Our schoolhouse includes a room specifically for infants and toddlers so that parents have a place for their youngest children to be safe and play while tutors help tend to their needs.
Age appropriate toys offer exploration and play. Portable cribs, swings, and walking chairs allow for naps, resting time, and exercise. A quiet period is slated into the day for babies to have a chance to sleep. And when the weather is nice, toddlers are able to play outside.
Parents always have access to their children in the nursery, and are able to take them along when needed, or as they chose.
Pre-Grammer (ages 3-4)
Our Pre-Grammar class allows young scholars to also hear and discover the same memory work topics as their older siblings. These activities are designed around play, art, and sensory. Scholars also enjoy choir, science, and art classes throughout their day.
